Achievements in Supply Chain Security, Logistics and Essential Drugs Management My career in Supply Chain and Essential Drugs Management sprang directly from my pharmaceutical marketing business experience in Canada. I sold that business and accepted the post of Chief Pharmacist in St. Lucia, where I led a team that produced the first National Formulary. I also trained student dispensers and reorganized importation and distribution of public sector drugs and medical supplies. This experience became very useful in the future when I developed large-scale social marketing projects. Following is a summary of my achievements in the subsector: Evaluation and Planning for next three years of Reproductive Health Project in Uganda. 2010 (5 wks). Employed by Futures Group. Funded by USAID.  Assessed and recommended ways to strengthen distribution and sales activities for the AFFORD Project managed by Uganda Health Marketing Group.Made recommendations for creating and managing a new profit-making company. Social Marketing of Contraceptives for ITAP in India. 2009 (5 wks). Employed by Futures Group. Funded by USAID. Evaluated DKT International’s social marketing Project Management in rural Uttar Pradesh state. Start-up of national Contraceptive Social Marketing and HIV/AIDS Prevention Project in Yemen. 2005-2006. Employed as Team Leader and Advisor by Marie Stopes International for nine months of the KfW-funded project. Worked with Ministry of Public Health and other stakeholders. Facilitated workshops, designed workplans, supply chains, marketing plan, budgets, test markets, baseline and impact evaluation. Hired and mentored staff. Social Marketing of HIV/AIDS prevention in Nepal. 2003. Employed by Family Health International. Reviewed USAID’s community-based social marketing test market for HIV/AIDS prevention among female sex workers and their clients. Recommended specific technical and management changes required for expansion to nationwide scale. Capacity building for Social Marketing of HIV/AIDS prevention in Namibia. 2002. Employed by Marie Stopes Int. (UK) for five months as counterpart to managers of NaSoMa (National Social Marketing Programme) – to develop social marketing, advocacy and behavior change communications. Progressed toward registering NaSoMa as nonprofit business. Produced successful proposal to the German government for expansion of NaSoMa activities. Rational Pharmaceutical Management System for NGOs in Bangladesh. 1997-1998. Employed by Management Sciences for Health. Funded by USAID’s Integrated Population and Health Project. Worked with national and international NGOs to create Essential Drug Lists and sustainable Revolving Drug Funds. Social Marketing in Pakistan. 1983-2003. Employed by USAID, PSI (four years) and Greenstar Social Marketing,
Communication for Child Survival in Indonesia. 1985-1989. Employed by Academy for Educational Development for four years. Funded by USAID's Child Survival Project. Resident Advisor to the Health Department's Center for Health Communication. Developed national plan for training volunteers in diarrhea control. Introduced self-sufficient social marketing of Oral Rehydration Salts. Developed communication component for first national HIV/AIDS prevention programme. Created advocacy campaign for “brides-to-be” tetanus immunization. (Page 5. #11,12,13 in my CV). Supply Chain for Oral Rehydration Salts in Sri Lanka. 1985. Employed by UNICEF. Developed plan to shift ORS supply chain from public sector to private sector. Public Sector Medical Supplies Procurement and Dispenser Training in St. Lucia. 1969-71. Employed as Chief Pharmacist for two years by Government of St. Lucia with CUSO support. (See page 5, #1 in my CV) Reorganized importing and distribution of medical supplies. Developed curriculum and trained hospital dispensers. Owned, Managed and Developed Pharmaceutical Business in Canada. 1958-66. Purchased community pharmacy in 1958, then strengthen it, including stock controls.
